What we do
We enjoy trips to a wide range of theatrical performances at different venues in the region. We do not go to the theatre on a regular basis but as and when a good performance comes up. We travel by coach.
The theatre group started in March 2002 with a visit to to see Nevilles Island at the Keswick theatre. Since then we have visited The Lowry, Salford; The Grand, Blackpool; the Heron Theatre at Beetham; the Brewery and the Leisure Centre nearer home in Kendal; and The Duke at Lancaster.
We have seen such diverse performances as Present Laughter; Flare Path; Christmas Carol; The Hired Man; I Got Rhythm; and An Evening With Gervase Phinn.
The cost of a trip varies depending on the performance, numbers, and distance traveled.
For further information contact the coordinator, Iris Shaw.
Reports
July 2008:
We have been to see an evening performance of Arsenic and Old Lace at the Keswick Theatre by the Lake and, as usual, it was up to the Theatre’s high standard and was enjoyed by all.
Whenever possible, I endeavour to arrange to go to a matinee – setting off in the morning, having lunch and arriving home again around tea time. There does not seem to be anything suitable on at the moment, and I am waiting for the new information from the various Theatres which should be printed in late July/August.
In future, Theatre trips will be advertised, whenever possible in the Newsletter, and regularly on the Website – with members of my Theatre Group continuing to be advised in the usual way. However, should any other U3A members wish to join us, please telephone me and I will give you all the information, and advise you if there are places available etc.

March 2008:
Our last Theatre trip was to The Sands Centre, Carlisle to see 'The Irish Tenors' which was indeed a marvelous experience, one which I am sure everyone would like to repeat. They were certainly a breath of fresh air, well turned out in smart grey suits with beautiful voices and excellent diction and their range covered classical and contemporary music. They are widely traveled and I actually purchased one of their CD's which was produced in Wellington, New Zealand.
Our next theatre trip will be organised late March or early April when the weather hopefully will have improved.

September 2007:
Our next trip will be to see ‘An Inspector Calls’ by J B Priestly, at The Dukes theatre, Lancaster, on Thursday 18 October 2007. The cost (including transport) is £15.00 per person, and bookings including a cheque and stamped addressed envelope should be sent to Iris Shaw by 6 October at the latest.
The bus will leave the Focus car park at 6.30 pm.
