What we do

We enjoy trips to a wide range of theatrical performances at different venues in the region. We do not go to the theatre on a regular basis but as and when a good performance comes up. We travel by coach.

The theatre group started in March 2002 with a visit to to see Nevilles Island at the Keswick theatre. Since then we have visited The Lowry, Salford; The Grand, Blackpool; the Heron Theatre at Beetham; the Brewery and the Leisure Centre nearer home in Kendal; and The Duke at Lancaster.

We have seen such diverse performances as Present Laughter; Flare Path; Christmas Carol; The Hired Man; I Got Rhythm; and An Evening With Gervase Phinn.

The cost of a trip varies depending on the performance, numbers, and distance traveled.

Reports

July 2010

I am still endeavouring to find a cheaper method of transportation to the Theatres. It would possibly solve the problem if more people were prepared use their cars – could you please let me know?

June 2009:
I am afraid my members will think I have gone off the radar screen, which is quite true, and this is because of cost. With the Theatre Group and Special Days Away I am not allowed to make a loss and the coach hire prices have gone sky high and it has become uneconomical to arrange anything. I have explored many ways of trying to get to the Theatres but the cheapest way seems to be by service ‘bus but it is not always conducive with the theatre times.
I have trawled the many theatre brochures in the hope that we could attend something by service ‘bus but to no avail. The Lakes Theatre in Keswick are doing a matinee of an excellent drama in September and I am hoping to arrange a visit by using the service ‘bus as most people have passes. We will go in the morning, have a look around Keswick, have lunch and then the theatre and home by tea time.

March 2009:
The last theatre trip was to the Heron Theatre to see “Not about Heroes” by Stephen McDonald, which was very enjoyable indeed. I have been loathe to arrange more Theatre trips because of the atrocious weather as I did not think it was worth risking life and limb but as I now think the weather is 'improving' I will arrange something in the next few weeks.
