What we do
Welcome to the third gardening group for U3A members. I hope this will be as successful as the other two groups and that it will provide a stimulating forum for swapping ideas, plants and experiences.
Hopefully we can accommodate 20-25 people by holding our winter meetings at the Abbot Hall Social Centre where we will have room for demonstrations and slide shows or films.
The idea for the first meeting is to get to know each other, hear about each others gardens and possible areas of knowledge or expertise and find out what we, as a group, would like to do during the year.
Please come with your ideas and we can, hopefully, compile a programme for the year. I thought it might be nice if you could also bring some photos of your gardens and any plants you might have spare to swap or buy. Money from the plants sold could go into a pot to perhaps buy in some local experts to talk to us ......... anyway these are my initial thoughts so I hope you will join us on Thursday 6th. November, 2-4p.m.
Reports
November 2009
We had a very successful year with garden visits to members gardens and nursery gardens in conjunction with the other garden groups. We have welcomed a few new members as a result of the U3A open day and have planned some exciting events for this next year. The group expressed a wish to be more “hands on” so we are going to don the work clothes for some of the meetings and help out on member's gardens and allotments.
We start the year with a second chance to make stone planters, which proved very successful last time round and we are joining with the Monday Gardeners for a talk on garden design for the January meeting. ( Jan. 7th. 2-4pm. at Abbot Hall Social Centre)
We meet on the first Thursday in the month from 2-4pm. and welcome new members who wish to join us.
