What we do

We have discussions (usually lively) on a wide range of subjects. These are introduced by various members.

New members are always welcome to come and try us out.

Reports

July 2010

We have enjoyed our meetings in our new venue at the Fire Station since Christmas, and have had some lively discussions on subjects as varied as:-

  • Why have seven days in a week.
  • Should we legalize drugs.
  • The best and worst inventions.
  • Purple.
    And many others.

Our discussions are quite lively and friendly. Sadly this is my last report as co-ordinator of this group. David Pitts will be taking over from me. I would like to thank all the members of the group for their co-operation and involvement over the last six years.

November 2009

We have lively discussions on a variety of subjects, some serious some not so serious. The topics are decided in advance so that everyone knows what the next one will be and someone volunteers to lead it with a short introduction. New members would be very welcome to come and try us out.

Please note that we will be moving to the Community Room, Kendal Fire Station, in January – our first meeting next term will be on will be on 4 January.

We meet on alternate Monday afternoons at the YWCA from 2.00 to 4.00 and discuss a wide variety of topics which are decided on in advance. Topics have ranged from “Is tidiness a virtue?” to “Beauty” via “Using public transport” and “The advantages and disadvantages of getting older”. New members would be very welcome to come and try us out. Discussions vary from serious to light-hearted depending on the topic.
