What we do

Lunches and much more - this is a group for Gourmets, Culture Vultures et al. All lunches are private functions. We also raise money for two hospices.

You do not need to come to every event; choose those which most appeal. Non-members and friends welcome. (Maximum 2 U3A events).

We aim for an easy-going, friendly group: distinctly non-stuffy. All restaurants/hotels are amongst the very finest in Cumbria and North Lancs. Events are run on the day by our hostesses, Wendy Milburn-Dickinson and Jane Bateman.

Contact the coordinator to express an interest or book a place.

Reports

March 2013

Such was the clamour for lunch at the Samling in April that it was fully booked before the date was announced! (Report in next newsletter.) We arranged an additional date for May; that too is already fully booked by word of mouth. So, we’ve arranged an additional, additional meal – see below.
Nb. We’ve booked the whole restaurant at all venues as exclusive SLU3A private functions.
Our hostesses greet you at the entrance and you will be made most welcome.

Our next outings are:

Miller Howe Country House Hotel (Windermere)
Mon. 1 July 12.45 p.m. (canapés) for 1.30 p.m.
4 courses, wide choice Approx. £25. Excellent reports; terrific views over Lake Windermere; AA 2 Rosettes Restaurant.

L’Enclume (Cartmel)

November 2012

Our private Function lunches at Cumbria’s finest Country House Hotels are very popular!
In September 48 members lunched at Lindeth Fell, Bowness and the North-West Harp Quartet played Gaelic music. Exceptional food, service to match, fine hotel, nice staff and lovely music.

A record 60 members visited Storrs Hall, Windermere, in October. Outstanding food and service from efficient, friendly staff. The manager gave a talk on the dark history of Storrs plus a tour of the historic building. Another ten out of ten.

Lindeth and Storrs donated four meals to our free draws whilst Barry Hudson and Bob Harrison provided additional prizes. A surprise presentation made to our co-ordinator included a bottle of wine called ‘Passion has Red Lips’. Oo-er …!

This group is now too big and successful to be run by one person. I seek a small group of members to assist with pre-event organisation. Please ’phone to discuss possibilities. Meanwhile we shall enjoy our winter break.

For report on our successful November visit to Sharrow Bay for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast (plus piano and harp recitals) see our sister group ‘Experiences’
